Gas-in-oil standards
Excellent for client or laboratory assessment of analytical performance using blind samples, dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is the most effective way of detecting incipient faults in oil-filled electrical equipment. The accepted methods for performing DGA are outlined in the ASTM D3612 and IEC 60567 standards.
As these methods require proper calibration of laboratory equipment prior to analyzing oil samples, the use of certified oil standards is recognized as an ideal way of verifying and maintaining the precision and accuracy of DGA methods. However, producing such standards in-house is tedious and costly; most laboratories have restricted their calibration process to the gas chromatograph used to analyze the gas sample extracted from the oil, and GC calibration does not address either systematic or random errors that may occur in the gas extraction phase of the analysis.
