MTS-5100: The True All-In-One Protection Testing Solution
At a time when utilities are pressed to sort through multiple challenges at once, simplicity can be a welcome change. Nowhere is this truer than in relay testing where technicians must verify in-service devices, new and old, in a variety of different protection applications. Investing in tools to equip relay technicians incurs costs for special instruments and their associated software licensing, not to mention add-on options and accessories. On top of that, indirect costs are incurred by the administrative burden of keeping up with it all.
The Manta MTS-5100 relay test system offers simplicity through an all-in-one design that allows the user to operate it without a PC. The MTS-5100 has an embedded computer that hosts MTS Onboard Software which users can easily navigate via the large display screen and no-nonsense controls conveniently located on the front panel of the instrument. Users have the hardware and software functionality they need in one complete test kit that doesn’t require them to purchase add-ons or accessories for the sake of handling different use cases.
Accessibility and Productivity
The embedded computer drives system features that provide testers at any level with a straightforward and easy process. For technicians new to testing, the display screen is a great visual aid that is easy to follow for understanding different fault characteristics. For infrequent testers, the intuitive software and on-board controls offer a familiar user experience. Frequent or expert testers can perfect their own custom test designs within the unit for “get in, get out” efficiency and repeatability.
The layout of the controls on the instrument and within the software is logical to the purpose at hand, whether creating tests, troubleshooting, testing manually or running automated tests. Users can follow the Productivity Modes interface to create new tests from scratch and save them into entire test plans that can be run plug-and-play thereafter.
Tremendous Power and Performance
The MTS-5100 is a simple test system to get up and running that provides the volt-amps and connectivity needed for multiple types of testing. The powerful amplifiers produce compliance voltages at levels required to make high power current outputs for testing high-burden electromechanical relays. Realistic fault currents and waveforms, including those for testing high-speed relays, can be created and controlled from the front panel which also offers GPS and IRIG-B connections for synchronized end-to-end system tests.
The MTS-5100 workflow does not require exchanging code with IEDs or storing their data; test results only can be captured in the instrument’s memory for cybersecurity and NERC compliance reporting purposes.
Whether testing electromechanical relays or IEDs, or even transducers and other electrical devices, the MTS-5100 can be operated completely standalone or controlled from a PC via Doble RTS™ software for automated testing, Manta RapidTest™ for test development and control functions, or Manta Remote Console™ which mirrors MTS Onboard Software for remote live support and user training purposes.
Built to Last
Besides being versatile, the MTS-5100 is a high-quality test set with a long lifespan. Users don’t have to figure out which model and options to buy since only one all-in-one version is available and it includes full instrument functionality plus firmware and software upgrades throughout the life of the unit.
Manta MTS-5100 users are Doble customers who have direct access to expert support, services and training every step of the way in their use of this premium relay test system.
