More Simplicity And Convenience With PowerBase Web
Administrators of client-server systems that manage power system electronics data could probably use a little simplicity when it comes along, and a way to stretch their budgets. Afterall, overseeing desktop support and software version control is heavy lifting, especially when updating client machines at scale…let alone the licensing costs tied to provisioning client seats.
End users—whether setup with the software installed on their PCs (“thick clients”) or using remote access software on a virtual machine (“thin clients”), or even setup with a local install and database that performs remote synchronizations to the shared database (“local clients”)—could probably use accessibility in a manner that’s convenient and available even if necessary during non-business hours.
With Doble PowerBase™, a central database application used by utilities for managing engineering and test data for all kinds of asset types, a new web version is now available that supplements the existing client-server model and offers expanded functionality beyond the Web Viewer that was released in 2022.
Like the Web Viewer, this advancement, PowerBase Web pre-release #1, offers administrators a lightweight and economical way to deploy PowerBase to the scale their companies need without incurring additional licensing costs, and gives end users the convenience of browser-based access anytime, anywhere.
PowerBase Web pre-release #1 emphasizes user preferences showcased by configurable layouts and navigation options plus intuitive report and dashboard wizards. Additionally, Active Directory authentication is now supported and preserves a customer’s existing PowerBase security setup.
Usability is key. To understand how to optimize the PowerBase Web user experience, developers gathered insights via survey responses and analyses of eye movements captured with special video display technologies during workshops with attendees at a recent Doble Protection Seminar. The findings from those live sessions led to multiple refinements that are now featured in PowerBase Web pre-release #1.
The voice of the PowerBase customer has always driven product development. Many innovative use cases are supported that leverage powerful tracking and reporting and native tools like the API and interfaces to external software including Protection Suite and RTS. Whether using PowerBase for substation inspections and asset health scoring or for driving standards-based field testing and interconnected work management, PowerBase Web pre-release #1 offers possibilities for even more use cases with more O&M personnel to increase value and ROI for your organization.
PowerBase Web pre-release #1 achieves the first of three new milestones that are planned toward fully web-enabling PowerBase. The incremental pre-releases as well as the finished launch release of PowerBase Web are being offered as standard inclusions of PowerBase licensing which means they are available for free download from the PowerBase support site for customers with active maintenance and support. Since there are no added licensing costs, customers are encouraged to try PowerBase Web pre-release #1 with as many user seats as desired. Customers are also encouraged to attend monthly meetups of the PowerBase user community held via web each first Thursday of the month which is the forum for knowledge sharing and dialogue over all things PowerBase in the months between the in-person sessions at the annual Doble Protection Seminar.
