ABOUT DOBLE DOBLE TIMELINE
100 Years of Service to Electric Utility Industry
Frank Doble’s first invention—a seven-pound portable telephone engineers could use to communicate with each other across intense, high voltage transmission lines.
The industry’s first line-insulator tests, Type A and Type B, which significantly increased the safety and accuracy of field testing.
To reduce the likelihood of failure, periodic maintenance testing is recommended to indicate whether the insulation is deteriorating, and how quickly. Enter power factor testing on transformers, the field application perfected by Doble Engineering Company.
In January 1934, 20 men representing 11 Doble client companies gathered for a three-day meeting around the theory and method of power-factor testing. This informal get-together was the genesis of what is now a week-long event that attracts over 1,200 attendees from all over the world: The International Conference of Doble Clients (more commonly known as the Doble Client Conference).
Frank Doble forms Special Oil Committee, first of the company’s Client Committees.
Our collection of data and analysis of commercially available transformer mineral oils allows us to compare current data with historical reports to evaluate product consistency.
Morgan Schaffer was established in 1965 in Montreal, Canada, by Dr. James E. Morgan and Dr. Robert Schaffer, with the first commercial laboratory in North America to offer dissolved gas analysis (DGA).
Doble TR-1 CB Motion Analyzer introduced based on requests by clients to replace their mechanical circuit breaker motion analyzers.
First microprocessor based protective relay test instruments Doble Type F3/F3S series.
Doble Type TR3000 and the TRX (DOS version) computer-controlled circuit breaker analyzer are introduced.
Doble Type AM100 circuit breaker monitor, first of a family of on-line monitors introduced.
Doble Test Assistant (DTA) Software introduced for computer-assisted management of all test data.
A revolutionary fully automated power-factor tester, the M4000, is introduced.
The Doble On-line Intelligent Diagnostic Devices (IDD) is introduced.
Morgan Schaffer launches Calisto, an improved on-linefault detection monitor that eliminates thermal effects from both transformer oil and the environment. The novel thermal conditioning approach is complemented by a new hydrogen detector that has the capability of selectively measuring dissolved hydrogen.
Doble Power Test, a UK-based electrical engineering company begins operation as part of the Doble Family.
The Myrkos DGA analyzer, an improved version of Morgan Schaffer’s existing solution for on-site DGA is launched.
ESCO brings cultural and technological affinities while providing Doble with additional resources to continually innovate, grow the business and welcome several companies into the family.
The M7100 automates multiple tests that were previously performed by several pieces of equipment. This can cut down testing time from seven hours to one and a half hours.
Transformer condition monitoring platform simplifies and empowers data-driven interventions by bringing together real-time diagnostics, analysis, health and condition assessment to one view.
ENOSERV pioneered the idea of a universal software platform for system protection testing, seamlessly bringing field and office systems together. Its automation tools ENOSERV RTS® and ENOSERV PowerBase® – natural complements to Doble’s suite of protection software and diagnostic test instruments – have enabled power and utility teams to work faster and meet the challenges of a time-sensitive relay testing and regulatory environment.
Doble Transient Cyber Asset Program is a holistic solution that is built upon our keen understanding of utility field work processes and challenges. Doble Transient Cyber Asset Program consists of multiple, versatile security controls that can be chosen and configured to best fit the utility’s needs, while complying with NERC CIP Transient Cyber Asset requirements.
NRG serves electric utilities, wind turbine manufacturers, renewable energy developers, research institutes, and government agencies in more than 150 countries. NRG joins Doble Engineering Company as part of ESCO’s Utilities Solutions Group (USG) operating segment.
Founded in 1991 and located in Ontario, California, USA, Vanguard Instruments offers a wide range of diagnostic test equipment that accurately and efficiently measures the health of critical substation equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
Doble’s acquisition of Manta Test Systems expanded the depth of our protection testing portfolio. Manta’s uniquely designed, self-contained protective relay testing systems offered our clients the ideal integrated system for testing and calibrating protection and control relays. Manta’s solutions have played a direct role in our mission of ensuring the reliable flow of power and have strengthened Doble by offering new opportunities and investments in product development.
Altanova offers a wide range of diagnostic products, monitoring systems, and services for electrical assets related to power generation, transmission and distribution networks, renewable energy and storage, and process industries, worldwide.
Phenix Technologies, the leading manufacturer of high voltage test systems and components. The acquisition positions Doble to build out its high voltage testing and measurement equipment portfolio and further expand into the commercial and industrial sectors.
